Description:The Joint Information System/Joint Information Center Planning for Tribal, State, and Local Public Information Officers Course (G291) is designed for PIOs with experience in the field who will be working in a JIS/JIC. This course will outline the communications needed for different incidents and define the roles of the PIO within ICS. The primary audience for this training is individuals who have public information responsibilities as their main job or as an auxiliary function at the federal, state, local, tribal or territorial level of government and in the private and nongovernmental sectors. This is the third course in the Public Information Training Series. The prerequisites for taking the G291 course are: G289, Public Information Officer Awareness Training; G290, Basic Public Information Officer Training; Participants can take the other prerequisites offered through the Independent Study section of the FEMA website: IS100.b, Introduction to Incident Command System (or ICS course for specific specialty: healthcare, public works, etc.); IS702.a, NIMS Public Information Systems; IS909, Community Preparedness: Implementing Simple Activities for Everyone. Completion of IS29 Public Information Officer Awareness may be substituted for the G289 course.
